2021 Bedminster’s Secret Gardens – FAQs
How many gardens are open to visit? There are at least 25 gardens taking part, please check the website for any additional gardens or changes to the guide. Final details will be in the guide.
How will you make Bedminster’s Secret Garden Covid safe? The ability to hold this years Bedminster’s Secret Gardens is subject to the Government rules allowing this sort of event to go ahead. Even if we are able to proceed, we want to make sure that everyone participating is as safe as possible. We’ll be putting in place extra safety measures for people visiting the gardens, these could include providing hand sanitiser and limiting the number of people allowed in a garden at any one time.
Are all the gardens open on both days? No, some are only open on one day – please see the guide for details.
How much does it cost? We suggest a minimum £2 donation per person. Please make your donation at the first garden you visit and get a sticker to show you have donated.
What is the money being raised for? This year all the proceeds will go towards supporting local horticulture projects working with young and older people in BS3.
Can children visit? Yes, children are welcome to visit for free but they must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times. Please note that some gardens are quite small / have steps so are not suitable for buggies and pushchairs. There is a picture trail for children to find hidden images in each garden. Pick up a sheet at the information stall or at a garden.
Can dogs visit? At some gardens well behaved dogs on leads are welcome – please check the guide for details
Are there refreshments available? Several of the gardens are offering refreshments – please see the guide for details.
Where can I pick up a guide? Guides will be available from the Riverside Garden Centre, The Southville Centre and at lots of other venues across BS3 and Bristol from early June.
Can I visit by public transport? If you’re travelling to Bedminster by public transport the nearest railway stations are Bedminster (marked on the guide map) and Parson Street (just off the guide map). There are gardens a short walk from these stations. The number 24 serves BS3 and there are several stops on North Street close to several of the gardens. Is there car parking? There is no dedicated parking at any of the gardens but most of the gardens can be walked or cycled between. Free on street parking is available across BS3 on Sundays. There is a residents parking scheme in place on streets in Southville (broadly all the streets between North Street and Coronation Road) on Saturdays. There are no parking restrictions on Sundays.
Can I take photographs in the gardens? Yes, but to access some gardens you need to pass through the house – please do not take any photographs inside people’s houses.
Are there toilets at the gardens? There are no toilets at the private gardens.
Can I pick flower or take cuttings? No, these are much loved private gardens so please do not take cuttings or pick flowers from any of the gardens.
Are the gardens accessible? We have included access information for each garden in the guide. Many of the gardens are quite small and/or have steps/uneven surfaces so access may be limited. How can I find out about any changes to the guide? An update with any changes will be published on https://bloomingbedminster.tumblr.com/ a few days before the event. You can also look for updates on the Blooming Bedminster Facebook page.
